Mom's Crochet and My Socks

click to enlargeMy Mom's been crocheting, despite the sadness of losing her best friend, also my Godmother, in a freak drowning accident. The funeral is this weekend, and everybody is sad and angry at the same time, because she went to the neighbor's pool alone - too embarassed for anyone to know that she couldn't swim.

SockI finally finished one sock, and it fits great, except that I made the heels a bit too pointed. QK said to leave an inch of stitches in the center of the heel turn. (Who has a 1 inch wide heel?) You can't tell in this photo, because I have flexed my foot to stretch the little flap that hangs off my heel. I'm may cut out the heels and reknit them with the leftover yarn. You may cringe, but EZ would cheer me on.
